SciFi and Fantasy Art: Bansheeeeee!

This is a piece I did for a horror tour I'm putting together (should be up soon). It's very unlike my style, but great because it taught me I can actually do this stuff. I'm used to looking at morbid art by others such as Bekinski and Barlowe and saying, wow, wish I could do that. I didn't think I had it in me. This is nowhere as good as Bekinski, but fun. The text in the background is from 'Fungi From Yuggoth', a poem by H. P. Lovecraft.

They told me not to take the Briggs' Hill path
That used to be the highroad through to Zoar,
For Goody Watkins, hanged in seventeen-four,
Had left a certain monstrous aftermath.
Yet when I disobeyed, and had in view
The vine-hung cottage by the great rock slope,
I could not think of elms or hempen rope,
But wondered why the house still seemed so new.
Stopping a while to watch the fading day,
I heard faint howls, as from a room upstairs,
When through the ivied panes one sunset ray
Struck in, and caught the howler unawares.
I glimpsed - and ran in frenzy from the place,
And from a four-pawed thing with human face.

-Fungi From Yuggoth, XII. The Howler

Lovecraft always refers to his monsters of having "paws" - not in the sense of paws as we have come to think of them - we think of pawed animals such as dogs, wolves, bears, cats etc. - but my favourite story by Lovecraft is "The Outsider" - and there he refers to touching a paw of a monster - anyway, I digress. That last line "...four-pawed thing with human face." always terrifies me.

My! Certainly, this is a true stroke of art. A wondrous piece, indeed. Something unexpected of a banshee. This is a splendid piece. That person in the forums (from a web comic) was right- the works here are FANTASTIC!

Your picture is very good, it has, instead of and ethereal beauty that most people think banshees look like but a ghostly evilness that would probaly scare the c**p out of me if it was real. Anyway i wish you luck with anymore art that you will create

The proper use of art is - when you can bring nightmares and dreams as close as it can get to reality...Cool!!

I really like the action lines and the feel of the picture as a whole, but for some reason the script in the background kind of throws me. It's too uniform. Maybe something from an old handwritten letter would look more appropriate here. I don't know, I haven't studdied typography. But I really do love the pose, lighting, the irridescent cloth is amazing(!) and the face is just perfect! Love it.
